Why should moviegoers see this film in IMAX?
In addition to the stunning visuals and immersive sound you’ll get from experiencing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in IMAX, select scenes from the film will be specially formatted exclusively for IMAX® theatres and presented in an expanded 1.9:1 aspect ratio.
This means that only in IMAX will the movie fill more of the screen, and fans will see 26% more of the image in IMAX than in standard theatres for an out-of-this-world moviegoing experience.
Director James Gunn has called IMAX the best way to experience the movie, saying: "Those who have followed me awhile know that IMAX is the optimal way to view a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I personally oversee the 3D, crafting every shot, and only in IMAX do we shift aspect ratios during big scenes so that you get nearly 30% more screen size than anywhere else."
What happens on screen when a film is specially formatted for IMAX?
Exclusively in IMAX® theatres, select scenes from the film will be specially formatted and presented in an expanded 1.9:1 aspect ratio. This means that only in IMAX will the movie fill more of the screen, and fans will see 26% more of the image in IMAX than in standard theatres.
Aspect ratio is the technical term for the proportional relationship between an image’s width and its height. Most films today are presented in an aspect ratio called CinemaScope (2.40:1). When a film is presented in CinemaScope, it is cropped and uses only part of the image the movie camera captures. This is the reason most ordinary screens are very wide but not particularly high.
IMAX provides filmmakers with the ability to use an expanded aspect ratio for the IMAX presentation of their film so they can utilize much more of the originally captured image – either during production through filming with the extremely high-resolution IMAX® camera or by protecting more of the image during their post-production process.
The result provides you with a full panoramic view that fills your peripheral vision more than any other cinematic experience. That’s why, when you watch an IMAX movie, it feels like it’s all around you. |
